Are these super-duper awesomesauce gear? Nope, but they will get the job done, help you get your book put together and no doubt pay for themselves hundreds of times over. These inexpensive little light kits are great for still life, food, small product and even jewelry. Yes, you gotta know how to use them, and adding a scrim to help give them a softer presentation may help as well. But for under $150 you simply can't go wrong. They will not withstand rough treatment, or being set up and torn down day after day. That is not what they are made for. But if you have a space to shoot in, the three small softboxes, three stands and a boom arm are a blessing for the starting out photographer. And they are continuous so you can SEE what you are doing. Using speedlights with no modeling lights are very time consuming - shoot/move/shoot/move/shoot... and ond and on.
