The Green Man | AI Generated Film

To AI, or not to AI? That is the question. We’ve been constantly testing new and emerging AI tech to see what it can (and can’t) handle. This time, we decided to test ourselves. Could we create a short film that preserved the craft of film making while integrating AI with purpose? Introducing: The Green Man. A dark comedy about a behind-the-scenes “legend” convinced he’s the beating heart of every production. In his head, he’s a superstar. In reality, his face never hits the screen, his “fans” don’t exist, and he’s slowly being replaced. Cue the rude awakening, the identity collapse, and the brutal truth: no one really cared. AI enabled us to expand our creativity, creating a storyline and visuals that our budget and timeframe would never have allowed for.  But it was also a partner. While it could do the heavy lifting visually the writing, direction, edit, sound design, mix, and voice performance were all created by people, and produced by our team here at Plastic. The goal wasn’t to replace craft, it was to learn. To understand the limits. The friction. And where AI genuinely adds value. We opted to use a real actor for our Green Man's voice, this felt like it served the story and character best.
