A (modified) build of the collapsible bookcase that Christopher Schwarz had shown to Roy Underhill on the Woodwrights Shop. So a big "Thank You!" to you two guys and thank you to my father who got me into woodworking. Roy's show has been on forever and if you like antique hand tools and are intrigued by how things use to get done without electricity you should look it up. Chris' blog/store (Lost Art Press) is a very active and informative blog well worth subscribing to, especially if you appreciate campaign furniture. https://blog.lostartpress.com/2013/12... (Chris, I hope you don't mind that I linked to your blog here.) I'll be trying to release a new video every week (give or take a few days) so don't miss anything and Subscribe, Comment and Like. I used two boards 70 inches long x 9.5 inches wide x 3/4 inch thick. There were also 12 hinges and as many brass screws as I needed (after I dropped a few in the shavings). The boards were cheap laminated boards from a big box store. The grain was going every-which-way with these boards. So, I would suggest getting solid pieces of wood if you are thinking of building this. My wife took a job in New Zealand roughly 7 months ago. When we moved I left all my power tools back in Pennsylvania (except a cordless drill). I regret leaving some of them behind like my lathe. Still, I figured this was the perfect opportunity to force myself to attempt to 'master' hand tools. I figure with a table saw, a through dado, and surface mounted hinges you could probably have a 'will-do' version of this in a couple of hours (or less). Though, I'm not sure how you would tighten the slop out of the shelves without mortising for the hinges. If I can figure that out I'll probably make a lazy mans version of this project.
