After years of looking at this thing on my shelf (never was run knowing it's fate), I decided to attempt fixing the problem. I looked at several 45mm diameter pistons and ended up trying a DLE 55 piece. Because of the large bore on the Mintor, the piston is very short as the stroke is quite short. With much measuring, cutting, and shaving of the rear pin cradle, and test fitting, the DLE ended up fitting snug. The other issue was the wrist pin and needle bearings are different sizes. I ended up using the DLE pin as a sleeve on both ends of the Mintor pin. This was done by cutting the pin for each end and had it hollowed to the right inner diameter by a machine shop. The DLE is about 2mm longer above the pin than the Mintor piston. Does not make contact with top of the cylinder, but it was slightly touching the bottom of the spark plug. Simple solution was adding a 2mm washer to the plug. This was the first run after choke to start. Needs some tuning obviously. I will ease into throwing stress on the engine for now. Took it apart again after this run. Everything was still tight and in place. No scoring on the piston or cylinder. Time and more running will see how she performs. If she blows, it'll just end up back on my shelf. Nothing to lose really.... One tank run through for this test. Was a functionality test, not a performance test. That will come soon.
