The historic town of Sukhothai is a beautiful UNESCO World Heritage Site in Thailand. Located near the modern city of Sukhothai in northern Thailand, the ruins here are from the ancient capital of Thailand. It became the capital in the 13th century, and during the reign of King Ramkhahaeng the Great the foundations for modern Thailand were laid here: Thai script, Thai writing, and Buddhism as the official religion.
