(25 Feb 1998) English/Nat The British Foreign Secretary, Robin Cook has issued another warning to the Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein. Cook said Britain was working on a resolution to ensure Iraq complies with the U-N agreement. At a meeting with his Polish counterpart Bronislaw Geremek in London on Wednesday, Cook also said he strongly supports the enlargement of the European Union. The British Foreign Secretary's warning to Iraq was given at a joint press conference on Wednesday with the Polish Foreign Minister, Professor Bronislaw Geremek. SOUNDBITE: (English) "Nobody can be confident of what Saddam Hussein is going to do in the next few weeks, never mind the next few months. But what we are determined to do is to hold him to the agreement he has made. That is why we have instructed our diplomats at the United Nations to start work in producing a text which would pin down and clearly state the terms of that agreement and provide a very clear marker to Saddam Hussein that we expect him to stick to this agreement, and that there would be severe consequences if he were now to break an agreement that he himself entered into with the Secretary-General of the United Nations. We're going to work to make the agreement stick - I hope we have some cooperation from Saddam Hussein in doing that."
