Non-Level Matched Samples: http://bit.ly/zmpulteceqp-1a (*ZIP* Password: zeitgeist) Our Website: http://www.zeitgeistmastering.com This video is aimed simply to point out how the Pultec style EQ can be of real benefit, how we might go about tuning and tweaking it, and how we can more accurately see what we are doing to the EQ curves. The Pultec style EQ is of course popular and one of its beauties is the fact that it's controls are unconventional... Very different to a parametric EQ. Because of this, and the Boost & Attenuation controls over the same frequency bands, interesting effects and alterations can result... Such as the low-end trick now commonly know and used to fatten up drums... Boosting the low frequently and cutting by the same amount creates an overlap and an interesting contour that can be sweet spot for a lot of drums. By using an EQ curve modelling plugin such as the Waves Q-clone, we can really see what exactly we are doing in a more graphical sense to the audio... Also by seeing the analysed eq frequency curves, we can highlight some of the differences between the software plugins and the hardware and also more accurately compare the differences (albeit subtle). This video includes & analyses the Tegeler Audio manufaktur EQP-1 handmade in Germany (Hardware), The Waves Q-clone and Q-capture, the Softube PE 1C, the PSP NobleQ, the Waves Puig-Tec EQP-1A and the FabFilter Pro-Q 2. These plugins were chosen for their quality and for their popularity in the music industry. The test is not extensive and was not endorsed by any of these companies. It was done to get an idea of just how modern day software can compare to circuitry and hardware and how we can go about evaluating this.
