Sweden, Finland, and the United Kingdom share a long history of partnership, forged through times of crisis and change. With Europe rocked by the largest land war to afflict the continent since the Second World War, and amidst a raft of challenges both old and new, these countries are working together to bolster national and regional security through such fora as the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF). What are the historical underpinnings of these important relationships, and – now that all three states are joined in formal alliance under the aegis of NATO – what are the implications of closer collaboration, both for their peoples and those inhabiting the wider Baltic Sea basin in this period of instability and geopolitical realignment? Speakers: • Amb Samantha Job CMG MVO – British Ambassador to Sweden • The Rt Hon Charles Clarke – UK Home Secretary (2004-06) and Joint Programme Leader, Baltic Geopolitics Programme, Centre for Geopolitics • Prof Malena Britz – Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Head of Research, Swedish Defence University • Minna Ålander – Research Fellow, Finnish Institute of International Affairs Chair: • Trevelyan Wing – Baltic Fellow, Centre for Geopolitics, University of Cambridge
