As 2025 nears its end, Médecins Sans Frontières looks back on a year of escalating acute malnutrition in Nigeria, Palestine and Sudan, among other countries. Médecins Sans Frontières has been treating acute malnutrition for more than five decades, a condition that is treatable thanks to therapeutic foods and adapted protocols, but remains deadly especially for children under five years of age without reliable access to nutritious food and healthcare. Communities, families and caregivers can struggle to meet their children’s very important nutritional needs due to a range of factors but funding shortfalls have crippled humanitarian efforts that might assist them, forcing vital nutrition programs to scale back or close. With food security worsening in different parts of the world, pregnant and breastfeeding women are also affected, at a time when they need nutrients to support their child’s needs as much as their own. In this webinar we will take a closer look at some of the crises MSF has responded to this year, and how our activities have evolved to reduce the impact of malnutrition on the affected communities. We will also discuss where MSF’s medical and logistical expertise fits in to the bigger picture of humanitarian support to address malnutrition, and how that shapes our outlook for 2026. In line with our medical focus, we will highlight what more needs to be done to improve care for acutely malnourished patients, and the innovations that we are pushing for.
