This is a timelapse of Gemini 3 Pro's completion completion of Pokemon Crystal using the "continuous thinking" harness, which was created by https://jcz.dev/ and broadcast at   / gemini_plays_pokemon   . This is not the first LLM completion of Pokemon Crystal, nor even first completion by Gemini, but it WAS the first time that savestates for every step of an entire LLM Pokemon run from start to finish were made available. After getting the Expansion Card, Gem tries to wake Snorlax before realizing the doesn't have the Radio Card itself, backtracks all the way to Johto to get it, returns (unnecessarily) to Lavender Tower to get the expansion card again, returns to Snorlax, finally opens the radio, completely fails to tune to the Poke Flute channel due to not understanding the UI and thinking that she has it tuned to the correct channel, returning to Lavender Tower a third time and fourth time under the assumption that the difficulty might be caused by not having the expansion card, then finally tuning the radio to the right channel and catching Snorlax 14:24-14:27 Red attempt #1 (Failed) 14:52-15:00 Red attempt #1 (Success) 15:26-15:52 Exploring the Whirl Islands for Lugia 15:54-16:00 Attempting to find Raikou and Entei. I cut the timelapse off here, but in truth this continues in vain for what would have been another eight timelapse-minutes before the run itself was ended. Gem never did encounter either of them at any point, let alone catch them. Incidentally, if you've heard about Claude Plays Pokemon and how it has not yet been able to successfully complete Pokemon Red, know that there are major differences between the harness of that stream and this one. Most notably, all seen tiles on the current map are tracked and provided to Gemini on every turn in this harness. It is also given the ability to write and execute code if it wants. This harness was originally designed to allow Gemini 2.5 to complete the game, so it ended up being a bit easy for Gemini 3, other than a few problem points. The music (AI-remixed, of course) is from    • Pokémon Gold/Silver but it's Japanese Jazz...   There may come a time where AI models no longer struggle enough at Pokemon to be interesting, but for now I find it a fun way to understand the way they think, and their strengths and limitations.
