Lamu Port Records Surge in Activity as Gulf Tensions Disrupt Shipping Routes The Port of Lamu is experiencing a significant surge in activity following the diversion of vessels initially destined for the Arabian Gulf, as escalating tensions involving the United States, Israel and Iran continue to disrupt traditional maritime routes. Over the past three weeks, the usually quiet but strategically important facility has transformed into a hub of operations, receiving high-capacity vessels and handling cargo volumes that are rapidly pushing it toward full operational capacity. Speaking at the port , Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) Managing Director Captain William Ruto described the period as one of the busiest since the port’s commissioning. “Over the last three weeks, we’ve been extremely busy. We received the first car carrier last week, and this is now the second, carrying the highest number of motor vehicles to be transshipped at the Port of Lamu,” said Captain Ruto.
