More tracking shots of flooded streets STORYLINE: Hurricane Wilma tore into the heart of Mexico's Caribbean resort strip on Friday, trapping thousands of tourists in darkened shelters pounded by torrential rains, as Cancun's half-million residents watched their streets fill with water. The mammoth storm, which had already killed 13 people, was expected to pound the area for two days, raising the possibility of catastrophic damage, before curling around Cuba and sprinting toward Florida. Forecasters at the National Hurricane Centre in Miami said the hurricane's outer eyewall - part of the fastest-moving section surrounding the eye - had hit Cozumel, a popular stop for divers and cruise ship passengers. Hundreds of residents and tourists were riding out the hurricane there. The hurricane was expected to make an agonisingly slow journey to the tip of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula and sideswipe Cuba - east of Cancun - then swing east toward hurricane-weary Florida. Cuba evacuated nearly 370,000 people in the face of the storm, which has already killed at least 13 people in Haiti and Jamaica. Wilma had weakened slightly, but it was still a Category 4 hurricane with winds of 230 kph (143 miles per hour).
