The main highlight of the Niah National Park near Miri in Sarawak, Malaysia are the Niah Caves. Unlike most other caves accessible to tourists access is not tightly regulated, but one can wander freely around in and between the caves. The first cave is the Trader's Cave that offered shelter to birds' nest collectors. From there it is a short distance to the large Main Cave, full of bats. You may find birds' nest collectors here. A not illuminated tunnel leads to the Painters' Cave with rock paintings. The rock paintings are rather vague and behind a fence quite some distance from the painings, but the walk in the dark between the caves is quite an experience. You definitely need to bring a torch. We visited Malaysia on our overland trip from Australia to the Netherlands; see our channel / janvanbekkum for hundreds of clips.
