They can be used for a variety of purposes, from predicting the impact of different control measures to planning future outbreak responses. SPARK (Strengthening Preparedness in the Asia-Pacific Region through Knowledge) is an international consortium aimed at strengthening preparedness in the Asia-Pacific region through knowledge, under the ASEAN-Pacific Infectious Disease and Response program (APIDDaR). The consortium includes collaborations from globally recognized public health institutions in Australia and the Asia Pacific region. The program areas focus on public health workforce development and strengthening outbreak detection and management systems and processes, to ultimately increase regional capacity using quantitative methods and modelling.
