'Thug Racists' and Coded Language

TGIF! This is a more comprehensive video about the Thug Racists (as they will now and forevermore be known) and their food blog. A lot of people seem to be confused (or, at the very least, feigning confusion) about what specifically makes the blog problematic, so I wanted to create this video that went into detail about racism and coded language. The Thug Racists are utilizing colloquialisms, vernacular, and speech patterns associated with Black people (AAVE slang, Ebonics, etc) along with coded language like 'thug' and 'gangsta'- terms that are commonly associated with Blackness. In addition to keeping their true identities as white people a secret, they essentially ran a blog comprised of literary blackface, where they mocked stereotypical Black culture (thugs, gangsters, swearing, phrasing) and contrasted it against luxury recipes and photographs. This is a common practice in America, where, to 'stand out and be different,' white people utilize Black mannerisms to be edgy, cool, and funny. This is like the food version of Miley Cyrus. They also exacerbated the mockery in their commercial for the Thug Racism cookbook, which doesn't utilize a single person of color and instead clearly makes a play off of Black slang words versus upstanding white citizens. The whole thing is highly offensive, especially at a time when Black people are being murdered and criminalized for being 'thugs,' 'gangsters,' and 'suspicious.' It is pure racism and it sickens me.
