We're bringing you along the way step-by-step and giving you tips we've learned after building awesome spaces. Step 1: Get Started - We have some great man cave ideas for inspo that will help! Tip 1: Choose a Location Whether you have multiple spare rooms, a basement, a garage or just a small corner of a room, find the space that works best for you. Building a man cave is a fun project to make a space to call your own. That’s why finding a spot is an important first step. Many man caves are destined for the basement or garage. But you don’t have to make a garage man cave! Tip 2: Choose a Theme Don't forget to think about a man cave theme! Think about your favorite hobbies and interests. This will lead to how you want to decorate your space with man cave decor, which we'll have more info about this in a later video! Most man caves are sports-themed, ready to show off team spirit and sports pride. But don’t be afraid to ask yourself questions to fully understand the direction you want this project to take. Tip 3: Prep Work The final step is taking care of the prep work required to create the ultimate man cave. Whether you’re cleaning an existing room up or just moving in, the prep work lays the foundation for the space. Clear the space out, start painting and do a deep clean! You might need to relocate electrical outlets around if you want a cord-free look when mounting your TV or devices. You can DIY this, but if you don't feel comfortable, we recommend reaching out to a professional. For further tips for planning your man cave, visit hideitmounts.com/spaceplanning Tip 1: Create a Map Your man cave is prepped, and you’ve picked a theme. Now it’s time to start mapping where you’re putting your couch, TV and other furnishings. Not everything has to be exactly laid out at this point, but focus on your larger man cave items. You can always draw it out on paper with rough dimensions, but we recommend using painter’s tape to map out the area. Tip 2: Pay Attention to Traffic Areas Whether you’re only planning on having a couch or a chair, you’ll need to plan how you and your guests will navigate around. For example, you need at least two and a half feet of walk space around furniture and when putting a coffee table in front of your couch, place it 14 to 18 inches away from the couch. Putting a pool table in our man cave caused its own set of problems. Many experts call for around five feet of space around the table, but since we’re working with limited space, we had to shrink the play area slightly. Tip 3: How High Should You Mount Your TV? No man cave would be complete without a TV, so we’re mounting two! There’s a lot of information about how and where to mount your TV. Some say it’s best to mount eye level; others say a few feet above the ground. We'll have those tips and more as we bring you along for our epic man cave transformation.
