A video of a world record score for the Amplitude song "Shades of Blue" by Chris Child with Melissa Kaplan on Insane difficulty. Amplitude is a wonderful but little-known game developed by Harmonix, before they hit it big with Guitar Hero and Rock Band. Regarding my "world record" claim: This was the best known score when I achieved it, back in 2003. It's possible that others have since beaten this score. However, there is no video proof that I know of. Interestingly, because the song is long and fairly easy, this is also the highest proven score on ANY song in the game, including the final song, Spaztik. :) How I achieved this score: when you begin playing a song, all the powerups are randomly placed along the song's tracks. However, when you replay the song without quitting, the powerups stay in the same locations. I mapped out all the powerups along the entire song, wrote a computer program that finds the best-scoring route that doesn't require impossible track transitions, and then played that route until I mastered it. In some ways this is a "computer-assisted" score, because such a complex route could never be found by a human; however, I'm playing the song legitimately. Because I haven't made my program public, it is extremely difficult for anyone else to come close to my scores, let alone beat them. It would require an extremely lucky powerup configuration, good enough that even an imperfect route would beat this. So, it's quite a good score. :)
