Lanhydrock estate belonged to the Augustinian priory but during the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the 1530's saw it passed into private hands. In 1620 it was purchased by a wealthy merchant Sir Richard Robartes of Truro who began building Lanhydrock House. The house eventually came under the ownership of the Agar-Robartes family who had the east wing of the house demolished, leaving the U shaped house we see today. In 1881 a fire destroyed the south wing with extensive damage to the central block. The long gallery and the front porch are the only parts that survived intact. In 1953 the entire estate was given to the National Trust which allowed preservation of the house and all of the Victorian collections. around 200,000 visitors visit each year and is one of the trust's ten most visited paid-entry properties. *Please note that this video does not generate revenue.
