In this lecture, Imam Ilyas clarifies a crucial point regarding Salah (prayer) and Kufr (disbelief): The Unchanging Core of Religion is Tawheed: The most fundamental principle in Islam, Tawheed (the Oneness of Allah), cannot be abrogated or changed across different prophets or nations. This is the core essence of the religion. The only action that truly makes someone a Kafir (a disbeliever who is expelled from Islam) is breaking or denying La ilaha illallah (the declaration of Allah's Oneness). While specific religious laws (Sharia), such as the form of ritual prayer, can differ between prophets, the core Tawheed remains consistent. Two Meanings of "Salah" (Prayer): Imam Ilyas explains that the word "Salah" carries two meanings: -- One meaning refers to the ritual prayer, which involves specific actions like standing, bowing, and prostrating five times a day. This falls under Sharia. -- The other, and more essential, meaning is Dua (supplication or invocation to Allah). This is the universal form of prayer that was common among all prophets. Not Praying Ritual Prayer is Not Major Kufr: Imam Ilyas stresses that there is no clear Hadith that explicitly makes leaving the ritual prayer an act of major Kufr. He points out that other Hadith describe certain actions as "kufr" (e.g., calling oneself to other than one's father, a slave running away) but these are understood as "small kufr" that do not remove a person from the fold of Islam. Therefore, while not performing the obligatory ritual prayer is considered a major sin and may lead to Hellfire for a period, it does not render a person a Kafir (major disbeliever). He describes ritual prayer as a "token of Islam," but not a condition to become a Muslim; one can still be a Muslim without performing it. Kufr is Linked to Abandoning Dua: The kufr associated with "Salah" is specifically related to the meaning of Dua. A person is considered a Kafir if they: -- Give up Dua and asking Allah, believing they do not need Him or never consciously think of Him. This is because Allah states that He will not care about people if not for their dua, and those who disdain His worship (which includes dua) will enter Hell. -- Only ask Allah for worldly things (Dunya) and show no concern for the hereafter. This type of person is also considered a Kafir who will be in Hell forever because they did not seek the hereafter. In essence, while ritual prayer is a vital pillar and a major obligation, the true line between faith and major disbelief lies in Tawheed and the fundamental act of Dua to Allah. #salah #prayer #kufr #islam #tawheed #shirk #dua #Muslim #fiqh #aqeedah #abrogation #understandingislam #dhahiri #ibnhazm *Chapters:* 0:00 Introduction to Abrogation in Religion 0:45 What Cannot Be Abrogated: Allah's Attributes & Tawheed 1:40 Tawheed: The Unchanging Core of All Prophets' Religions 2:30 The Question: Is Not Praying Obligatory Prayer Kufr? 3:05 Clarifying Hadiths on "Kufr" - Small vs. Big Kufr 3:50 The Two Meanings of "Salah" (Prayer) 5:05 Why Ritual Prayer is Not the Core of Tawheed 5:50 Analogy with Zakah and Other Commandments 6:40 Quranic Examples of Salah as Dua (Supplication) 7:45 The Story of Abdullah bin Ujid A'an: The Importance of Dua 9:15 The Essential Prayer: Dua - What Makes One Kafir if Left 10:40 Tawheed: The Instant and Unchanging Core of Islam 11:55 The Only Action That Makes Someone Kafir: Breaking Tawheed 12:30 Is Not Praying Mandatory Prayer Kufr? - The Final Answer 13:10 Comparison with Prophets Adam & Nuh's Nations and Their Beliefs 14:50 Accepting Everything from Allah & The Action of the Heart 15:50 Conclusion: Not Praying is a Sin, Not Kufr
