Honest questions about faith, church, and how Christians actually live in the real world. Realistic Christianity actually started with a question I asked in eighth grade. I grew up very active in church in Memphis. One day, after hearing a lot of things that didn’t fully add up to me, I told a boy at church that we should start our own denomination. I already had the name ready: Realistic Christianity. I was completely serious. When I told my mom about it later, she looked at me like I was starting a cult. It was funny in the moment, but the question behind that reaction has stayed with me for years: what actually separates a denomination from a cult? And how do you build real Christian community without drifting into something unhealthy or controlling? Since then, I’ve heard the same kinds of questions come up again and again. Questions about sin. About suffering. About why good people struggle. About why church communities sometimes carry so much pressure when faith is supposed to bring clarity. This channel is a place to wrestle with those questions honestly. We’ll talk about Christianity, but we’ll also stay grounded in what we can actually observe—history, evidence, science, and the real patterns of human behavior. Sometimes the conversations will be serious. Sometimes they’ll be imaginative. Sometimes they’ll just be honest reflections about church culture and what it means to follow Jesus today. Mostly, this space is about figuring out how people who take faith seriously move through the real world. What should realistic Christians value? What should we actually fight for? How do we balance our own lives with the responsibility we have to the communities around us? Those are the kinds of questions we’ll keep exploring here. There will be conversations, shared stories, questions from the community, and moments where we just sit with the tension of things we don’t fully understand yet. And just to be clear from the beginning: This is not a cult. #RealisticChristianity #Christianity #FaithInTheRealWorld #ChurchCulture #christianfaith RealisticChristianity.com My Mom Thought I Was Starting a Cult When I Said THIS Opening Hook - 0:00 - 0:13Nervous excitement about the project launch The Origin Story - 0:13 - 0:47How the project started back in eighth grade The Eighth Grade Story - 0:47 - 1:26The white boyfriend, children's church, and creating "Realistic Christianity" Mom's Reaction - 1:25 - 2:06Mom thought it was a cult; the denomination vs cult question The Real Questions - 2:06 - 3:04Questions from first grade through adulthood about sin, God vs devil, suffering Wrestling with Questions - 3:04 - 3:23Creating space to wrestle with real questions while having fun The Vision - 3:23 - 3:57More than content - talking about this for days Personal Connection - 3:56 - 4:07If you know me, we've talked about this Beyond Content - 4:06 - 4:31How do realistic Christians move in the world?
