In this tutorial I'll show how to draw a realistic dog nose in pastels. I'll also show how to draw the grey, white hairs of an older dog muzzle in pastels. This small pastel study focuses on these two main elements which are really important when working on pet portraits. Drawing the white, grey hairs around the mouth area of the dog is what brings the character to the portrait but this element can be tricky to get right with pastels. These white details can soon become muddy and mix in with the layers underneath which then result in muddy layers. The whole section can then look flat and lack depth. The way the pastel is layered is important but the pencil technique plays a big part to. Building layers gradually and switching between light and dark then dark to light can really increase the level of realism of this one section. - - - Pastel, Acrylic, Graphite & Tutorials: Patreon: www.patreon.com/zaratomsart Would you like to see what tutorials I have on Patreon?
