If anyone is going to visit Sedona from the East we would highly recommend driving in through the Oak Creek Canyon route. It is a little slow going and has a few tight turns, but on a sunny day there are some spectacular red rock views. If you do choose to drive this route make sure you check out Slide Rock State Park which will be on the south side of the road about 7 miles before you get to Sedona. It is a State Park so there will be an entrance fee but it is a very nice place to check out. A little history and some great scenery. We would also recommend stopping in very early in the day, the Park opens at 8am, because the crowds will roll in very quickly once the day starts to warm up. We elected not to swim on this day but this is our stroll around the area. It was a homestead at one time so it's a little bit of a museum as well as popular swimming area. So take a look at what the park has to offer and if you want some unique views of the canyon take a walk along the Cliff Trail to be able to look down onto the creek. It's a short trail, about 3/8th of a mile but does have some cool views. We stopped in to the gift shop and found a couple of snacks when we were done with our tour. A perfect ending to a fun visit.
