Music video concept for Chris Knight's song "Rural Route". This edit of reclaimed documentary footage and live Chris Knight bootleg footage, represents flashbacks to the rural homeplaces, older generations living a nearly bygone way of life. I mean to edit this footage into memories of his mother's house that doesn't have phone, down on the rural route... I heavily colorized and added vintage film effects to the footage for a lot of that old time film look. The 1999 Rory Kennedy "American Hollow" documentary footage captured the lives of the Bowling family homestead at Mudlick Hollow in the eastern mountains of Kentucky. I singled out Iree Bowling for the "mother" in the Chris Knight song. Her son reflects back on his life, in a montage of scenes from the old days we see his upbringing memories in the first half of the video, then we see him reflecting both literally and internally in the light of a bonfire. Finally we see this homeplace for the last time and Grandma Iree fades away into the hills that made him who he is today. These selected scenes are what most country folks (including myself) would remember from their childhood. I'm not sure where the Chris Knight footage is from originally, it's the only useable internet footage I could find of Chris Knight playing Rural Route live. So if anyone out there has nice HD footage of Chris Knight and his entire band playing this song let me know! This video concept was made for my own editing fun and for all you good ole' boys and gals.
