Going Beyond eSports to Computational Sustainability For the past 10 years SOSSI (Saving Our Sons & Sisters International) and Pharaoh's Conclave have been working with low to moderate income students in the areas of STEM + Arts & Design or STEAM around the Metro Atlanta Area. Since 2016, SOSSI has been able to provide key support in the areas of community engagement as it relates to helping students, parents, teachers, schools, and communities to get more advocacy, support, and resources needed for our students to have the essential and required skills to work in CS and STEM based careers. Pharaoh's Conclave will share their experiences as engineers of color, how girls and women of color are doing in Computer Science and STEAM, eSports & Gaming in Georgia, and share how they are providing current opportunities to engage underserved youth and women, finding them employment and internship opportunities in the gaming, computer science, or IT related industries. Our session will show practical ways and best practices we are using to educate communities with online tools, engage youth, girls, and boys of color in public schools, and how HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges & Universities) and MSIs (Minority Serving Institutions) can support and increase participation. Presenters: Chuck Barlow, Jr., Erich Thomas, Nicole Ford, Derryll Johnson (K-5, 6-8, 9-12, New & Experienced, Higher ed, Principals, Superintendents, State Officials, Counselors, Curriculum Coordinators, Instructional Coaches, Community Organizations & Funders) Session ID #80 -- Note requires editing of participant Autumn Sutton as per email
