Anubhava – The Unfolding of Bhakti Bhakthi is not merely devotion expressed in words or rituals; it is an inner journey that gradually unfolds through experience. Anubhava signifies this profound realization — where devotion transforms from thought into lived emotion. This Bharatanatyam presentation traces the evolution of Bhakthi in the heart of the devotee, the soul’s intimate journey with the Divine, as experienced through movement, music, and emotion. Rooted in the sacred presence of Lord Nataraja of Chidambaram, the presentation unfolds the many hues of Bhakti — from childlike wonder and devotion, through longing and love, to ultimate surrender. The presentation opens with “Idadu Padam Thuki Aadum Nataraja” (Rāga Kāmāch, Ādi Tāla), composed by papa Adam Sivan choreographed by Vidyalakshmi M S. This piece celebrates the cosmic dancer whose raised foot grants grace and liberation, invoking awe and reverence through vibrant nritta and bhava. “Nottu Swarama – Sōma Skanda” (Rāga Śaṅkarābharaṇam, Triśra Eka Tāla), a composition of Sri Muttuswamy Dikshitar, choreographed by Vidyalakshmi M S. Here, Bhakti is expressed in its purest, most innocent form — a heartfelt, uncomplicated devotion that flows effortlessly toward Lord Shiva. Followed by “Thillai Ambalam Thannile” a traditional composition set in (Rāgamālika, Miśra Chāpu Tāla), choreographed by Late . Guru Bhanumathi. The emotional landscape deepens with the Shabdam Portraying the Virahotkaṇṭhita Nāyikā, this piece embodies Mādhura Bhakti, where divine love is tinged with longing and separation, set against the sacred space of Chidambaram. Culminating the journey is the Padavarnam “Karunai Nee Saiyya Vendume” set to Rāga Nāṭakur̤iñji, Ādi Tāla), composed by Sri Dandayudhapani Pillai and choreographed by Vidyalakshmi M S. This central composition portrays complete surrender (śaraṇāgati) — a plea for compassion to Lord Nataraja, where the self dissolves, and Bhakti transcends into Mukti.
