We all obviously appreciate the benefits of reason, but does it then follow that all forms of folly must be shunned? The Praise of Folly is a book written by the Renaissance philosopher Desiderius Erasmus. As the title suggests, the book is full of justifications as to how folly can be beneficial to us. One of these justifications sees “overlooking” as a form of folly. Usually when we use the word “overlook” it’s in a negative context, such as overlooking a question when taking an exam. Here, however, overlooking can be seen as a positive in that we overlook SOME faults in other people. Obviously no one is perfect and everyone has faults, so to better work with those people, we need to overlook those minor faults. Folly (or overlooking) thus is a way for us to better engage in relationships with others. #philosophy #erasmus #folly Music by: HoobeZa Amazon Affiliate link to book: https://amzn.to/3p02v7H ko-fi: https://ko-fi.com/philosophytoons Business Inquiries: [email protected] Instagram: philosophytoonsyt
