The drive took approximately 2 hours. Upon reaching Baghdad, my first stop was the mausoleum of the great Sufi saint, reformer, and perfect Wali, Hazrat Abdul Qadir Jilani (RA). His blessed shrine is located within a vast complex that includes a large mosque, a library, and a madrasa. The atmosphere is extremely peaceful and uplifting. The love and grandeur of the faith are visible everywhere." about Hazrat Ghous Pak (Shaykh Abdul Qadir Jilani) Full Name: Muhiyuddin Abu Muhammad Abdul Qadir ibn Abu Saleh Musa Jangidost. He is most famously known as Abdul Qadir Jilani and revered as Ghous-e-Azam or al-Ghawth al-A'zam (The Supreme Helper). Birth: He was born on the 1st of Ramadan, 470 Hijri (1077-78 CE) in the region of Jilan (or Gilan) in Persia (modern-day Iran). Lineage: He was a direct descendant of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) through both his parents. His lineage from his father's side connects to Imam Hasan (RA), and from his mother's side to Imam Hussain (RA), making him a Sayyid. Education & Early Life: He received his early education in his hometown. At the age of 18, he travelled to Baghdad, the epicenter of knowledge and Islamic learning at the time, to pursue advanced studies. There, he studied Hadith, Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence), Tafsir (Quranic exegesis), and other sciences under numerous renowned scholars. In jurisprudence, he followed the Hanbali school of thought. Spiritual Initiation & Succession (Bay'ah & Khilafat): In Baghdad, he sought spiritual guidance from many mystics but received his cloak of succession (Khilafat) and Ijazah (authorization) primarily from Shaykh Abu'l-Khair Hammad ibn Muslim al-Dabbas (RA). Teachings & Sermons: After completing his education, he began teaching and delivering powerful sermons (Wa'az) in Baghdad. His sermons were known for their profound spiritual impact, attracting masses and guiding thousands to repentance and the path of righteousness. His lectures were attended by thousands of students. Title "Ghous-e-Azam": The title "al-Ghawth" (The Helper) or "al-Ghawth al-A'zam" (The Supreme Helper) was bestowed upon him due to his station at the highest pinnacle of spiritual hierarchy in Sufism. It is believed that a "Ghawth" is a singular saint appointed by Allah to provide help and assistance to the entire spiritual order of saints (Awliya) in times of cosmic crisis. Sufi Order (Tariqa): He is the founder of the Qadriyya Sufi order (Silsila-e-Qadiriyya), which became one of the most widespread and influential Sufi orders in the world, playing a vital role in the propagation of Islam. Literary Works: Some of his most famous books include: · Al-Ghunya li-Talibi Tariq al-Haqq (Sufficient Provision for Seekers of the Path of Truth): A comprehensive book on Islamic law, creed, and Sufism. · Futuh al-Ghayb (Revelations of the Unseen): A collection of 78 spiritual discourses. · Al-Fath al-Rabbani (The Lord's Revelation): A collection of 62 sermons. Demise (Wisaal): He passed away on the 11th of Rabi' al-Thani, 561 Hijri (1166 CE) in Baghdad, Iraq.
