This original content is part of SIDF+, the 2020 virtual presentation of The Seattle International Dance Festival. ----- Please, consider donating at www.seattleidf.org/donate Our annual Seattle International Dance Festival had to be canceled due to COVID-19, but we rose to the challenge and re-envisioned it as a virtual event, SIDF+. Unfortunately, we already had many expenses for SIDF and lost a great deal of funding and ticket sales jeopardizing our sustainability. The dancers and staff, our entire organization, need your help to bring us through this difficult time, so we may continue bringing dance to your (virtual) doorstep and dance again (live) in 2021. Any gift helps and is so appreciated in the challenging situation we all find ourselves in today. seattleidf.org This viewing of Dhrut was recorded by Teamwork Arts at The Expressions Festival of Contemporary Dance in Delhi (February 2016) Presented online in lieu of SNDA's 13 year celebration. ABOUT DHRUT “Captivated the Audience from the word Go..” – Dr. Sunil Kothari (Dance Critic – The Hindu) “Absolutely Mind-Blowing” – Suresh Goel (Director General – ICCR) What if forward and backward time travel was to be visualized in a three-dimensional space? Delving into the fascinating concept of time dilation, SNDA’s latest production Dhrut portrays the intricate relationship between time, space and speed. A seamless synchronization between rapid movement vocabulary and musicality, Dhrut highlights the individual impact of pace, rhythm and motion on movement to culminate into an emulsion of the three. As ‘Past’, ‘Present’, and ‘Future’ douse themselves in a debate set-up by the constant ‘Time’, the elements of live music, drastic rhythm changes and reverse choreography bring the concept of ‘time transition through space’ to life. CHOREOGRAPHER’S NOTE (Sumeet Nagdev) Dhrut is also my personal debate with time. I have had many concussion moments wherein I found some reality in déjà vu, sleep, imagination and thoughts. It almost felt real at times. But these moments pass by so fast that I started missing them. An unseen climax in my dream, finding out the previous encounter of my déjà vu moment, understanding why is my imagination leading me where it is leading me now and then why do I think the way I do. Dhrut is a synchrony of all for me. It sure maybe a debate between past, present and future but for me, every time it will be performed it will be a dialogue or rather a debate with time.
