Do you not see that whatever goes into the mouth passes into the stomach and is expelled? But what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart, and this defiles a person. For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander. These are what defile a person. But to eat with unwashed hands does not defile anyone. Matthew 15:17-20 This passage is often interpreted to mean that the rules concerning clean and unclean animals are no longer relevant, that we can now eat whatever we want without sin (violation of God's instructions). He condemned the Pharisees for making up new rules and teaching people to break God's direct commandments, so does it really make sense for him to turn around and immediately make up a new rule of his own and teach people to break God's direct commandments?
