Shani refers to the planet Saturn and is depicted as a male deity in the Puranas. It is also one of the 9 heavenly bodies known as Navagraha in Hindu astrology. A 20-foot-tall statue of Lord Shani was also established at Yerdanur in the mandal of Sangareddy, Medak district, nearly 40 kilometers from Hyderabad city in the year 2013. Lord Shani is generally propitiated on Saturdays by offering Yagna and chanting different mantras. Shani mantras are recited to get relief from ill effects of Lord Shani.
