A few important things to note about this video. Operation Rei-go is an incredibly obscure topic, and there are very few Western Sources that directly mention it. As such a lot of the “research” I did for this video came from the Japanese Wikipedia as well as conferring with other people about events that may have possibly happened. Japanese Wikipedia has proven to be a pretty reliable source in most cases, but on the other end Google Translate is not particularly good and no doubt has mistranslated many of the things I read. I tried to make good all the translation mistakes that I encountered, but there is no doubt that there are a few that got through. A big focus for me when making this video was trying to tell the story of Operation Rei in a compelling way, and as such not every single detail from the sources I checked made it into the video. If you want to know more about Operation Rei-go, I highly suggest reading the Japanese Wikipedia page for it, as it is the best source I could find. The biggest discrepancy is that we don't know for absolute certain what actually sank the James H. Breasted. Combinedfleet cites that it was actually sunk in a friendly fire attack by an American plane. That version of events is entirely possible, but I chose the storyline of Ashigara’s floatplanes sinking her for one main reason/ The floatplanes that Ashigara carried were fitted out for dive bombing and as such would be particularly good at hitting a target, better than most floatplanes, and since they were operating above James H. Breasted that night it made sense that one or more of them would have tried taking a potshot at her. However it is definitely possible that as Combinedfleet says, it was an American plane that sank her, or possibly even a plane flown from IJA land bases.
