Today, we have 4 hearings in a case with a couple where Dad is asking the court to terminate the family support payments that he’s been required to pay because not only is Mom working a full time job, but the children also don’t even live with her and she hasn’t seen them in over a month because she failed a recent UA. Dad’s lawyer says the family support payments were established in 2021 when Mom was still the primary parent but the children went to live with Dad full time when Mom relapsed a few months later. He says she continues to struggle with alcohol and keeps having positive UAs. Mom says she wouldn’t need the help to pay the mortgage if Dad would just finalize the divorce and give her, her portion of the equity and that it’s not her fault she can’t make enough to afford it on her own as she wasn’t allowed to work while they were married so her ex-husband could work on his career.
