tlcpest-control.co.uk At TLC Pest Control, we specialise in the safe, humane removal of live bumblebee colonies from homes and properties — and we want to make one thing clear: WE NEVER KILL BEES. One of the most common species we remove is the Tree Bumblebee (Bombus hypnorum), which is known for rapid colony growth and its ability to overwinter in some cases. In this case, however, we were called out to remove a colony of White-Tailed Bumblebees (Bombus lucorum) — another strong and active pollinator. While White-Tailed Bumblebees are excellent pollinators, they’re not typically handled by traditional beekeepers, who mostly focus on honey bees. Bumblebee colonies are seasonal, smaller, and not suited for long-term hive management. However, we always remove and rehome bumblebee colonies carefully into natural environments where they can continue their vital work in pollination. Removing a bumblebee nest — especially from lofts, chimneys, or wall cavities — is a specialised task. These bees can sting repeatedly, unlike honey bees that sting once. That’s why we advise staying well clear and letting our trained professionals handle it. This particular nest was removed early in the season, when it was still small. In just a few weeks, it could have grown several times in size! We’re proud to be a UK-wide company saving both honey bees and bumblebees, giving them the chance to thrive while keeping your home safe.
