It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: At about 2:49 a.m. on June 11, 2023, Officer Wilson from the Tampa Police Department spotted a black 2018 Land Rover speeding at 122 mph on Interstate 275. He pulled the car over, but the driver stopped in the right lane instead of using the exit ramp like he asked. Officer Wilson stepped out of his patrol car and approached the driver, a woman named Alexa. While talking to her, he noticed signs of being impaired and smelled alcohol on her breath. She handed over her driver's license and a credit card, but he said he didn't need the card. Alexa confessed to having one drink earlier that night. Officer Wilson then asked her to do field sobriety tests. Two other officers showed up to help around then. He began with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test. Next came the Walk and Turn exercise. Alexa kept asking off-topic questions and struggled to follow the instructions for the walk test. Soon after, they stopped the tests and arrested her for DUI. A quick search of her car turned up an open Coors Light can. Officer Wilson took her to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office for more steps. She agreed to a breath test, and the results showed 0.194% and 0.181% blood alcohol levels—over twice the 0.08% limit.
