Franz Jaksch - Elegie for Double Bass and Piano Franz Jaksch (German: Franz Jaksch; October 10, 1851, Nova Bistrshice, now the district of Jindrzychow Hradec, Czech Republic — March 3, 1931, Bregenz) was an Austrian conductor and composer. Son of Adalbert Jaksch (1826-1911), Bregenz city kapellmeister (1864-1899). Graduated from the Prague Conservatory. He served as a conductor in the orchestra of the 49th Infantry Regiment of the Austro-Hungarian Army. Since 1875, the city kapellmeister in Peche. In 1878 he resumed his career as a military conductor in the 76th Infantry Regiment. Since 1882, Professor of chamber ensemble and instrumentation at the Horak Conservatory in Vienna; among his students, in particular, Rudolf Glick and Luigi von Kunitz. In 1899-1917, he led the Naval Orchestra in Pula, replacing Franz Lehar in this post. He spent the rest of his life in Bregenz. Author mainly of marches and waltzes for brass band. He also wrote the opera "Abellino" and the operetta "Jockey" (German.
