On the 25th of April 1915 the Allies launched an attack on the Gallipoli Peninsula. They were trying to secure a sea route to the Russian Empire. But they would have to get through the Ottomans first! The battle lasted for 8 months, and is considered the great Ottoman victory of WW1.
