After a long delay, Toyota introduced the Fortuner facelift in India on January 7 and finally, we got the vehicle for a proper drive. The front gets tweaked grille with less chrome compared to its predecessor while the headlamps are sleeker and the design is also new. The DRLs are integrated into the headlamp with projectors. The front bumper is also completely new with revised fog lamp housing too and faux skid plate at the front and rear are slightly bigger too. The changes to the side are limited to 18-inch alloy wheels and new mirrors. The only change on the rear is updated LED tail lamps. The changes to the interior are minor and the big difference is that the updated model gets 8-inch infotainment system instead of 7-inch. The SUV now comes with connected car features - geofencing, find my vehicle location, real-time tracking, etc, via a smartphone app. Toyota has also added few more features - ventilated front seats, 11-speaker JBL sound system, and front clearance sonar. The Fortuner continues to be powered by same diesel and petrol engine but there are some changes as the 2.7 L petrol engine puts out 164 hp and 245 Nm, 5-speed manual and 6-speed automatic. 2.8 L diesel engine produces 201 hp and 420 Nm, mated to a 6-speed manual. But with 6-speed automatic gearbox - 201 hp and 500 Nm. Like the earlier model, the new Fortuner also gets 4 wheel drive system. The company hasn’t made many changes for the suspension on the regular model. The Diesel Fortuner is priced from Rs. 32.48 lakh to Rs. 37.43 lakh. The variant we are driving 4x2 automatic is 2.31 lakh more than its outgoing model (2.50 lakh for 4x4).
