To introduce this project, Gys Joubert (Gondwana Managing Director) said: “It is a project in which we provide meals to those who would go starving.” Dgini (Marketing & Gondwana Care Trust) emphasised that: “This was an idea from a few years ago as we have always tried to distribute the excess meat from our working farm, Self Sufficiency Centre in Stampriet. It gave us an opportunity to grow the assistance that we offer the soup kitchens and orphanages. Over the years it has grown, because we saw a need in public schools, which is quite sad as children often have nothing to eat. In addition, one cannot perform well on an empty stomach.” MealForTwo is a project with an emphasis on alleviating hunger in Namibia by supporting various people or organisations who work with feeding schemes. As a consequence of the dreadful drought Namibia is experiencing this year, Gondwana Care Trust is currently trying to expand its feeding scheme. A few projects are currently in pilot phase in order to ensure that the meals served are nutritionally balanced. Thanks to some of our partners in the industry such as Sea Pride, Seawork, Global United FC, the Trust has been able to expand the feeding scheme. The Trust has encouraged some recipients, namely Khaibasen Community Centre in Okahandja, PAY Centre in Windhoek and Lidar Foundation in Windhoek to order fruits, vegetables, and other necessary dry ingredients and the Gondwana Care Trust pays the invoice. This idea was introduced in order to improve the feeding scheme by not only offering meat, but also including fruits and vegetables. Ideally, in order to make this project a success more sponsors have to buy into this wonderful idea. Dgini ended off by sharing valuable lessons she holds close to her heart: “The feedback and follow-up is most important for this project, as every sponsor is dear to us, regardless of what they offer as they have tried to make a difference. It is important to say ‘Thank you’, however offering feedback on how a donation was consumed is vital and recipients need to understand that too. A little follow-up lesson: give, receive and offer the feedback on how this ‘sponsorship’ has made a difference.” We could not have provided 14,730 meals (value: N$ 316,000), to various projects from November 2018 to July 2019, without our sponsors, Global United FC and Bank Windhoek. In addition, our Self Sufficiency Centre continuously ensures that meat is available for the meals we provide. We would love for you to be part of this amazing project and to join us in being our brothers’ and sisters’ keepers.
