This Winter hike was incredibly beautiful. The snow and ice made the highest peaks of the Brecon Beacons, Corn Du and Pen y Fan, look even more spectacular and wild than usual. The 7.5 mile walk begin near the Storey Arms in a free carpark (LD3 8NL). From here we decided to take in one of the lesser walked peaks, Y Gyrn, a very boggy hike over it was too! Kat was a bit worried as this was her first proper trip out in her new boots, Salomon Quest 4 GTX, it was going to be a great first test. From here we made our way over to the ridge and up to a memorial dedicated to a young welsh lad who sadly lost his life on the mountain, Tommy Jones Obelisk. We spent a few minutes here, just taking in the scene. We then joined the main 'highway' path, a well defined but very icy, trail up to the highest peaks in the Brecon Beacons National Park, and all of South Wales. First was the snowy peak of Corn Du, the bitter wind was trying to knock us off our feet at this point so we scurried off pretty quickly to Pen y Fan, where a lot of people were waiting to claim the Peak as their own. We did the same then headed for a spot to sit and warm up with Christmas cake and tea. The wind chill felt like -10, we soon had to get moving back down to the lower peaks and to our last mountain of the day, Pen Milan, before heading back to the car. Towards the end of the video Kat provides her initial thoughts regarding her new walking boots, she also promises a proper review in a few months time.....you better hold her to that! We are in no way affiliated with Salomon, we bought the boots with our own money and our opinions are entirety our own. Thank you for being here, all the best, Ceri & Kat! / teainvalhalla / teainvalhalla
