A COVID DIARY A collaboration with Pulitzer Prize winning Photographer David Turnley’s and his students studying Documentary Photography with him at the University of Michigan, in the Penny Stamps School of Art and Design, and Residential College. The Assignment. Photograph your life, and the world around you, over the course of 4 months, during this epically challenging time of the global Covid Pandemic, to produce over 5 installments, 100 photographs each, to be curated by David Turnley, into a Collective COVID DIARY, that will touch the world, and serve as a Documentary Memory of this time that none of us will ever forget! Over the course of this period, with weekly reviews, David Turnley, and these extraordinary 22 students, met over zoom, for two hours each session, to review, and support each others work, from Detroit, Chicago, New York, New Zealand, Tampa, towns throughout Michigan, and Paris. The background of this amazing group, varied from students who had never before picked up a camera, to on the other end of the spectrum, students who have had extensive experience. The common thread, was the goal, to each day document, with empathy, the realities of the world around us during this historical, dramatic time. This Project, A COVID DIARY, is the result of this work and collaboration. “During This Historical Time- It Has My Honor To Mentor and Collaborate With You!” DAVID TURNLEY.
