🧠 Doctor, can nerve injuries be treated with neurolysis alone? The answer is MAYBE… In many cases, neurolysis can be the key to restoring nerve function without needing a nerve graft or more invasive reconstruction. But when is neurolysis NOT enough? 💡 Neurolysis is effective when: ✔️ The nerve is compressed or trapped in scar tissue, restricting its function. ✔️ The nerve has not been severed or completely torn—only compressed or restricted by surrounding tissue. 🩺 What exactly is neurolysis? It is a surgical procedure that releases the nerve from scar tissue, adhesions, or other structures compressing it—allowing it to regain function and relieve pain or weakness. 🔍 Three signs that neurolysis might be enough to treat your nerve injury: 1️⃣ You still have some movement. If you haven’t lost all muscle function, it suggests that the nerve is not fully severed, just compressed. 2️⃣ Your symptoms are getting worse over time. This may indicate a progressive compression rather than a complete rupture. 3️⃣ Your imaging tests don’t show a nerve rupture or avulsion. If there’s no sign of a complete break, neurolysis could be enough to restore function. ⚠️ Important note for brachial plexus injuries: The brachial plexus is a complex network of nerves—meaning that injuries often involve a mix of nerve stretching, tearing, or avulsion. Some cases may require both neurolysis and nerve grafting. 💡 Want to learn more about nerve injury treatments and recovery? 📌 Follow my profile for expert insights on nerve surgery and rehabilitation! 📲 Need a consultation?
