COVID-19 safe schools reopen after lockdown as exams 'could be delayed'

Millions of students are back in the classroom after the coronavirus pandemic forced schools to close since March. 40% of schools have returned, with the rest coming back over the coming week due to teacher training days and other complications. The government confirmed parents who keep their children at home will face fines of up to £120. Strict rules are in place to reduce the potential spread of the virus among pupils, including social distancing, one-way systems and hand sanitising stations. Some schools will introduce further measures to prevent the virus from spreading, including staggered break times for different year groups and zones to keep kids apart, with separate classrooms, toilets and lunch areas to stop any spread.
