PART 1: Knowing The Game 00:00-09:12 Whether you are travelling to Japan for the first time or have visited the country before, one thing for sure is that your ‘first impressions’ of both people and places can be distant and distinct! The BXAI Orientation / Team-Building exercises could be just the thing to kickstart our Bai Xian Scholars in getting to know each other and of Japan, but will it work? PART 2: Countryside Escape 09:12-14:08 It’s now time to escape from the city to Nikko, which is nestled in beautiful Tochigi Prefecture! Let’s embark on an adventure together to discover and explore more of this side of Japan that’s unassumingly serene. With destinations like the Rinnoji Temple and Ashio Copper Mine Museum, will our scholars’ impressions of Japan change? PART 3: Edo Wonderland 14:08-18:28 The highlight attraction of the SP2025 excursion this year was again the Edo Wonderland, a popular tourist destination where visitors experience hands-on what life was like during the Edo Period in Japan (1603-1868). As our Bai Xian Scholars travelled through time to this age of ninjas, they dressed up in kimonos, interacted with Edo locals, and experienced some of the traditional festivities (even learning new things like ‘highballs’). PART 4: Building Bridges 18:28-23:56 To many of our scholars, the biggest takeaway from the first week of our Summer Program is making new friends and seeing new things. Let’s listen to our 2024 Cohort of Bai Xian Scholars sharing their reflections on how common experiences broke ice and built bridges, how connections were formed, and how mutual respect took root in their hearts. #BXAI #SummerProgram2025
