Thursday, March 20, 2025, 5:10 a.m., Am Dammsteg, Eller A strong smell of fire and flames led to several emergency calls in the area of an allotment association; a garden shed burned down, but no one was injured. Shortly after 5 a.m., emergency services were alerted to an allotment association in Eller. Several callers reported the smell of fire and flames in the area of the plots. Upon arrival, a shed was already fully ablaze, with flames shooting several meters high into the dark sky. The fire was immediately tackled from two sides with several hoses, and access to the garden was gained. Emergency services assisted the arriving owner, who was visibly shocked but uninjured. Several hundred meters of hose had to be laid to supply water, causing delays in bus traffic on Ludwigstrasse. However, due to the size of the fire water tanks in the fire department vehicles, including a tanker fire engine, there was no delay in extinguishing efforts. After approximately one hour and the use of wetting agents to ensure greater penetration of the extinguishing water, the fire was brought under control to the extent that only small embers remained to be extinguished. This was due to the intricate construction of the huts, some of which had been built by the residents themselves, and the narrow space in the allotment garden plots. A total of 28 firefighters and two rescue service personnel were involved. The scene was handed over to the Environmental Agency and the police. The exact cause of the fire is unclear; the criminal investigation department is handling the investigation. Source: Press release from the Düsseldorf Fire Department
