In this episode of Double Tap, Steven Scott and Shaun Preece welcome two of the leading team at Agiga - Xiaoran Wang, CEO and Huasong Cao, CTO - to discuss their new smart glasses set to launch in 2025. EchoVision aims to revolutionize assistive technology for the blind and low vision community with AI-powered features like scene description, OCR, and remote assistance integrations. "We started collecting feedback from our beta user group last year and have been focused on improving both hardware and software," the team shares, emphasizing their commitment to building with and for the community. The EchoVision glasses feature a black, stylish design with attachable shades for light control, a camera, microphone, and speaker. "Our targeted daily use is four to six hours, with a case that doubles as a power bank," they explain, noting the USB-C connection that allows users to charge with any power bank. The glasses also support prescription lenses, catering to diverse low vision needs. EchoVision integrates multiple AI models, including GPT and Gemini, to provide the best responses based on context, with future plans to allow user selection of AI models. "We built with and for the community," Agiga emphasizes, highlighting their focus on top user needs like reliable OCR and seamless app integration. The glasses function with a smartphone for setup and additional computing power but can also operate independently on Wi-Fi. Xiaoran, CEO of Agiga, recounts her experience at Amazon Lab 126, where she worked on Alexa and other innovative projects, inspiring her to leverage technology for greater impact. "We see the blind and low vision community not taking full advantage of the latest technology, and that's why we're here to help," she states. EchoVision is priced at $599, with a pre-order discount of $449 and no subscription fees for early adopters. Pre-orders require a $99 deposit, with shipments expected in Q2 2025.
