#SinhaIQ Press Release : RAILWAYS TRYING TO BRING KARIMPUR WITHIN RAILWAY MAP •Union Government sanctioned Survey Work for Krishnanagar – Karimpur New Line Project Kolkata, November 06, 2023 It took near a century to respond to a popular demand for Krishnanagar –Karimpur railway link, while during the colonial era, the then Eastern Bengal Railway authorities conducted a survey for Krishnanagar - Behrampore railway line via Karimpur. But ironically the Karimpur remained outside Railway network whereas the Railway line has been extended up to Lalgola which is infact at far away corner of Murshidabad district near the international border between India and Bangladesh.  The present Union Government felt the need of the inhabitants of Karimpur for a high speed mass transit system. In an aim to establish Railway communication with Karimpur area and facilitating the socio-economic development of the region, the present Union Government has sanctioned for feasibility survey aiming towards commissioning of Krishnanagar – Karimpur new line having a length of 80 km. With the conceptual plan already submitted in August this year, the soil exploration work, topography survey & traffic survey is o­n progress. The Railways has also send letters to the Block and Reform Officers of different Mouzas and block areas for extending help by providing village maps to prepare land acquisition plan for the corridor alignment. Starting the survey work from August the Railways has already reached to an advanced stage of the survey and it is expected that the entire survey work for Krishnanagar – Karimpur new line will be completed within 06 months. Thereafter, based o­n the feasibility analysis the project will start.  Shri Kausik Mitra,Chief Public Relations Officer, Eastern Railway said that "In synchronization with the aim of Union Government to improve the socio-economic condition even of the remotest area of West Bengal, all sorts of co-operation from State Government officials is expected to be received by Railways."
