This video explains how to properly build the FIP for a self built mainline U-Boot. The video explains: The vendor source U-Boot and its gotchas (need to know how to work with AOSP, old version, proprietary in a way, binaries made for old Python versions etc.) - by looking at the vendor image it was taken from.
