I have these Specialized Recon 1.0 shoes for half a year, I rode with them all summer of 2023, and I want to let you know my impressions. So these shoes were created mainly for Mountain Biking & Gravel, but you could easily adapt them to your needs. The sole has a stifness index of 6 out of 12, yet they are super comfortable to walk in. That's because the sole is flexible in the toes area, and allow for a natural movement. I feel like I could walk for miles, and still feel comfortable. I assume the Body Geometry contributes significantly to this sense of ease. The sole provides great grip when walking, thanks to the generous rubber treads. Don't get fooled by the fact that these shoes are great for walking, the rest of the sole is pretty stiff, and once you hop on the bike and start pedaling, you can feel the power transfer. My feet are quite wide, and these shoes accommodate them gracefully without any discomfort or squeezing. After multiple rides exceeding 4 hours in the saddle, I can confidently say that my feet never felt numb at any point. In my opinion they achieve the perfect balance between walking shoes and performance shoes. On top of that, the shoes are on the light side. A pair weighs about 660g / 1.45 pounds Assuming you don't jump in the mud, they are super easy to clean with wet wipes. The velcro closure might be the only thing dragging down these shoes. Don't get me wrong, velcro still works great, but if you want a super snug fit, I suggest you try the 2.0 version, which has a BOA system, or the 3.0 which has 2 BOA systems. The dark spots that you see on the side of the shoes, is the result of the friction between the shoe and the crank arm paint. At the moment of this review, the shoes are on sale on the Specialized website, and they retail for only 55 dollars, which is a steal in my opinion. Keep in mind, that not all models are on sale. They come in many colors variations, so finding one that suits your style should be an easy task. Overall, I am super that I bought these shoes, and if you are thinking about buying a pair, I say go for it. You won't regret it for sure.
