We sold about 300 copies which was killer. The second demo, "Rotting Christ" was kinda shitty. Too much low end. We sold about 100 of that one. It was recorded on a cheap 4 track in a garage. The drummer learned all the songs that day and we recorded it. T: What do you have to say about the production of your third đemo "Impale the Soul of Christ on The Inverted Cross of Death" DOTD: I think it's killer, especially for a 4 track. It's still very raw and sick. Maybe that's why some people can't get into it. I mean, just because we don't have a thousand bucks for a demo doesn't make it shitty. T: Since Nunslaughter has been around since 1987, do you think you got the recognition you deserve? DOTD: Yes and no. Yes, because all the freaks from long ago like King (King Fowley from Deceased) and Jeff from Vital Remains know where real death metal is at. No, because people that hear that the demo isn't recorded with Scott Burns or at Sunlight Studios can't relate to a different sound. T: Have you ever received any label interest? DOTD: No, actually I've never sent a press kit or whatever to any label I just don't give a shit if they hear it or not T: Have you ever read Anton LaVey's satanic bible? DOTD: I've read it. lt's kinda funny in a way because it goes out of its way to be evil and opposite of the Christian bible. Just believe in yourself at least you can be sure that you exist. T: What bands does each band member listen to? DOTD: Actually I can just speak for myself because members change fast in this band. I'm into a lot of stuff, mostly old death like Hellhammer, Bathory, Massacre, Hatred, Goatlord, Necrovore, Atrocity (Ct.), Repulsion, etc. But I like Black Sabbath (tons), Voivod (old), Slayer (old), Kiss (old), Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, Zappa Venomn, Motorhead, Count Raven, and many more. l'm not really into stuff from the '90s cuz '80s death metal is god. T: What are your relations with other bands from your area? DOTD: There aren't any from Clarion but Pittsburgh where l'm from. I know most of them like Rottevore, Mythic, Exmortis, Bathym, Hideous Mangleus. I get aiong with them all, they're all very cool, T: Do you think Pennsylvania is a good place for a satanic band like Nunslaughter to come from? DOTD: Yeah, why not. Not enough sadism in Pennsylvania at all, so that's why we're here. T: What's your opinion on Swedish death metal bands? DOTD: Fuck it. Some of them are okay but they're not death metal, unfortunately that's what they call themselves. Just because they grunt into a mic and turn up the distortion doesn't make it death metal. I mean, Nunslaughter isn't flashy, no leads, very simple, straightforward real death. Also, Sunlight Studios (where Entombed, Dismember, At The Gates, Entombed, Grave, Katatonia, Vader, Amorphis, Darkthrone, Therion, Tiamat etc have recorded) should Burn in Hell. T: Would you enjoy sodomizing a dead nun and killing the bitch? DOTD: I just asked my grandmother the same question. As for me, no. The screams are the best part and if she's dead it would upset me to no end. T: How did you get your name Don of The Dead? DOTD: King Fowley from Deceased sent me a tape about 5 years ago and labelled it "Don of The Dead" it was cool since I love that movie (Dawn of The Dead) so I kept it. As far as Rancid goes, I was typing up the liner and said what's your name and he said Rancid.
