Generally working with quads has the advantage, that the mesh looks mush better when beeing subdivided. That doesnt apply to lowpoly, but i still think that quads support a sort of visual flow much better. Also they have less edges per surface. So the edges you end up seeing are actually the important and visiaully nice ones. That keeps things nice clean and calm. Tris can be used to create a more chaotic and random style. Which still might be preferable in some situations.
